(POST 30) - Planning - Props

Image
List of props needed in your idea The props we are looking to include in our music video are very simple but hopefully it will make more sense once the video is made therefore we are looking to include a lighter and a few photos of the main actor Aaron and his girlfriend that has left him because it sets out the scene more clearly that she has left him and he feels lonely and angry. Also we feel that using a lighter creates a different kind of lighting and looks good on camera therefore gives more variation in lighting. Images of the props you want to purchase/make The photo of the couple on the right is only a rough idea just to show that the character will have a photo of him and his ex girlfriend on paper that will be burnt on camera. YouTube tutorial links to how you could make these We don't have any links because all of these props will be already made , all we will do is print off a  few photos of the couple to use in the filming. Images of you purchasing/mak...

(POST 29) - Planning - Costume and Make-Up

Image
List of the costume and make-up required for your characters For our music video the costume is going to be very basic therefore the actor that we will be wearing general clothes for example jeans, jumper and jacket and possibly wear a hat or scarf depending on the weather on the day to make it realistic to the conditions, we plan on making him wear all black so the audience can see that the color represents how he feels. No make up will be used in our music video. Sketches of how you envisage your characters to look Images of the costumes and make-up that you are hoping to use and reasons why For the male actor this is the rough idea we are looking for because in the winter season they are going to be needing to wear a coat or jacket due to the cold weather. We plan on making the actor wear all black because it will show that he's lonely and shut away from everyone. The male actor will will be going for the more casual look because wearing a suit or smart clothing to show loneline...

(POST 28 ) - Planning, Casting and Characters

For the music video final piece we are going to have two actors who will take part in the main video shoot. The video starts of with the woman finding the man asleep surrounded by bottles on the beach. Clearly the mans life is in a mess so the woman takes him into her home and they get close to each other. They eventually return to the same beach where they both met on a date. Therefore we believe having two people who are already in a relationship will work or two people who look like they could be in one. For the woman role we were thinking of two people either Reya Muller or Georgia Bacon. We chose the both of them as they suite the role and would be happy to feature in the music video. For the male role we have two candidates as well them being Indy Holmes or Aaron Walker. Short Character Profiles Female role - The female character in this music video will play a supportive and caring role towards the man. She will show a clear amount of care and worry towards t...

(POST 27) - Planning - Setting

Image
What do you understand by the term 'setting'? The term setting means the place or surrounding areas where an event is taking place. For example, the setting could be a town centre. What settings do you want to use in your video? Keep in mind that setting can refer to 1) The time of day/season/year/decade/era and of course the actual physical locations. For example, a bedroom or a shopping center are as much a 'setting' as The Middle Ages, or during WW2 or the future. For our music video we plan on using three major locations which will include Wymondham Abbey, Wymondham Church and Wymondham Train station in order to create variation in heights, camera angles and scenery in the background of the actor. The time of day will vary we will be using night and day so that the audience can see that the pain the character is suffering no matter what time of day. We will be doing it in present day rather than putting it back in the past because we think it is more suited to a...

(POST 26) - Planning- Script/Stage directions/Plot outline

Wymondham Abbey  Aaron - sitting by the river looking down at a photo of him and his ex girlfriend that has left him,                     after a few shots for variation he drops the photo into the lake.  Some shots of the river and countryside areas to show loneliness  Aaron - walks towards to Wymondham Abbey train station and sits on a bench to show that he doesn't know where to go and feels lost without his girlfriend that has left him.  Wymondham Church Aaron - sitting at a church looking down to create an effect that he feels like shes completely gone and never coming back. He walks towards a stone wall and sits on the wall and pulls out a photo of him and his girlfriend and burns it with a lighter using a close up shot of the photo on the stone wall. Aaron - when the song reaches the chorus we will be using the lyrics from the song which they artist naughty boy sings about running so we wi...

(POST 25) - Feedback From Audience Research

With our audience research video we tried to aim our research at the target audience therefore we found the balance of using two people outside the target audience and three people within the target audience. For the two people that are outside the target audience we went into the town center and spoke to two random people and asked them questions that have already been out on my blog. From doing this we found out that the main way for people of the older generation go to the cinema roughly once a month therefore this shows us that the cinema is more for younger people. Also we found out that the way they consume music videos is normally at home whilst watching TV or on a mobile phone. The platforms they consume on is usually things such as music channels on TV or YouTube and they find out about the release on social media on the rare occasion. From the younger people we found out that they prefer to find out about the release of music through social media and the main platform they co...

(POST 23) - Audience Research

What are you trying to find out? We want to find out the ways people consumer music videos or feature films, who are film production companies targeting, what people like to watch, what do they watch the film/music video on and finally opinions on our idea including how it can be made better or what would they like to see included in the music video we are producing. What questions are you going to ask to get these answers? Do you watch feature films or music videos? If so how often do you consume them in a week? What do you consider to be the definition of a feature film? What do you consider to be the definition of a music video? How do you think production companies promote their products? Who do you think production companies target when making a music video? What attracts you into watching a music video? What do you watch music videos on? TV YouTube etc. For our media project we have to make a music video and our idea is based around a couple spending the day at...

(POST 22) - Forms and Conventions

How are you planning to conform to forms and conventions? (consider technical, symbolic, verbal, genre codes) - The idea of our music video thus far is a romantic date between a couple who are in love after the woman had previously saved the mans life. The romantic side of the videos story is quite a generic, love story which follows the supposed laws of a video within this genre code. However, we have added are own twist on it by including the revival of the mans life after meeting the woman. This part of the video is what we think will set us apart from the 'normal' video type within this genre. We wanted to show diversity in the video so we didn't seem to follow the same storyline as every music video. We believe we have achieved this with the changes we have made to the storyline from the original idea we had. We also want to introduce into the music video different cut-away shots from the normal cutting the clips up throughout the whole video. We played around w...

(POST 20) - Final Practice Video Task

Image
We were given the task to create a one minute music video of original footage. We were put into groups and given a choice of a number of songs to choose from. We had to either do a music video in one take or one in the style of director Wes Anderson. Here is a Wes Anderson Music Video... Here you can see Wesley has a specific style to his music video. With an Indie or Alternative style of music he uses a abnormal and quirky conventions to match the genre but also create originality and creativity within his style to help with recognition as you can link his style to his name as it stands out more than other styled music videos. He uses one or two characters and also the use of giving objects life form but alternatively only one or two protagonists. More so, the characters get most of the screen time and fill the whole camera angle to show their importance. He Also uses a story line to create purpose but also a mini film which co-insides with the music.  We cho...

Recreate A Famous Album Cover Similar to our practice task last week, we have to create a famous album. Once again, we were placed in randomly generated groups. The group I was placed in included Jordan, Tazmin and, of course, myself. In these groups, we were given a random album cover by sir to recreate. The album we were assigned was 'Creatures of the Night' by Kiss: Unlike the other task, however, we had one lesson to familiarise ourselves with the poster and to organise models. This is because the album covers involved more comprehensive makeup and therefore required more preparation in order to bring in the appropriate costumes/makeup/props. Finding models willing to have such dramatic makeup applied during school hours (particularly period one) was difficult. Fortunately, we found two who were willing. While we didn't need any comprehensive props, our photo heavily relied on makeup. This meant we needed to acquire some eyeliner for the next lesson. This could ...

In different groups (different to our coursework groups), we were given an existing film poster. I was put with Jordan Rolf (below). We then had 2 hours to recreate this poster as close as possible to the exact detail and then upload to our blogs. We only had the  resources we had come to the lesson with, so one group had a camera in their bag and we used our phones and computer but another group forgot their laptop so had to print things out of hand-edit it together. Immediately, we knew we had to  take a photo who looked as similar as possible to Jim Carrey and was wearing a similar suit, so we went into a sixth form common room and asked a friend to pose like Carrey with a white background. Then we looked for photos on the internet of penguins, edited them, and arranged them into the photo. Thankfully, Jordan knows how to use photoshop very well and it wasn't difficult. After that, we closed in on the writing and took a while to choose a similar font to ...

What is your idea for the coursework at the moment? At the moment the idea for the coursework is very vague and will definitely change loads. We haven’t really thought about the song all that much but we have decided that we don’t want to use the grime genre as we believe it would be too hard to work a music video into that genre of music. We have also decided that we will be using a song that we all like so that we can have four different views on how to film the video and what should be included in the video. If someone in the group doesn’t like the song, then they would become less involved and we believe that would reflect badly on the outcome of the whole project. We have been looking at different songs and reading into the lyrics to find a song where we can link both the lyrics and video together. When we decide on a song for the music video I will be shore to update this blog or make a new blog post on how and why we picked the song. Who are you planning on working with...

Post 13

We, as a group decided between us, that we would rather choose to create a music video over the production of a film because of our music interest and enjoyment of sharing skills in a music genre we all agreed would be suitable yet a genre we all had interest in. For me personally, I didn’t want to create a film for our coursework due to so many great films around on the media that its just such a high expectation to make it best to help people enjoy it as much as other amazing high quality and expensive films. Due to being amateur and also strict with costs, it causes a lot of stress to be perfect and worthy of the audience taking time out of their lives to watch it. Also, with films, the story lines are very much familiar. A good guy, a bad guy, a pretty girl who needs saving or even happy endings. However, with music videos there is so much more variety and less pressure around creating a good music video as sometimes the simplest and cheapest videos are regarded as the best. The us...

What went well? – When we were filming we had built up a plan prior to the filming date on the shots we wanted so that it made it easier on the date. We decided that this was a step we had to take to set ourselves in the right direction to improve on last year’s coursework. In the previous year we filmed coursework of the back of our hands. We decided that it really wasn’t the right idea to follow that procedure again as it hadn’t worked in the previous year. We felt like the plan would give us more time to focus on the quality of the shots and setting up the equipment and actors instead of actually working the plot out on the day. We also gave ourselves longer to film the project this time round in comparison to the hour we gave ourselves on the last practice task. We really didn’t take it as seriously as we should’ve last year so we have learnt from our mistakes. What didn’t go well? – In majority the shoot for the film went surprisingly well. We used the equipment we had to the...
